Named for the Bolgatanga region of Ghana, near the border of the Sahara desert, these baskets are woven from sturdy grasses that thrive in the harsh agricultural conditions so they can handle pretty much anything you throw at, or in them!

Due to the handmade nature of this item and the natural materials used, individual colors and patterns may vary slightly.

About the process:

Basket weaving is a primary source of income for thousands of families in rural villages in North East Ghana. The grass used for weaving is harvested during the 8-9 months of the "dry season" each year, treated with eco-friendly colorants and sealants, and woven primarily by women into functional and sturdy baskets for everyday use. Each basket takes an average of 2-3 days to complete, as artisans are often the primary care givers for their families. Your purchase provides health care for weavers and their families as well as school supplies, community centers, and other awesome projects!

If your basket loses its shape, just wet with water, re-shape, and let dry.
