About the process:

"Express your passion. Do what you love. No matter what." - Vladimir Tretchikoff (1913-2006)

A Russian immigrant living in Cape Town, South Africa, Vladimir Tretchikoff experienced widespread success with his series of portraits of women he met during his travels throughout China, Singapore, Indonesia and South Africa. His iconic portrait, "Chinese Lady", is of a young girl who was working in her uncle's laundromat in Cape Town where Tretchikoff was a frequent patron. He simply asked if he could paint her portrait, but his unusual color palette and styling catapulted the painting into one of the most commercially successful pieces of the 20th century. Established in 2010, the Tretchikoff Project partners with designers and makers in Cape Town, to bring quality, hand crafted items featuring Tretchikoff's colorful and unique portraits to enthusiasts worldwide.

Curious about the pigeon logo? The story goes that Tretchikoff was visited by a pigeon in his studio who's identification ring numbers added up to 13, the artist's "lucky number". Seeing this as a good omen, the artist welcomed the pigeon into his family, and the bird would sit atop the artist's easel, keeping him company while he worked.

Habitation Co. is proud to be the first U.S. based distributor of the Tretchikoff Project's unique products.
