\ˌha-bə-ˈtā-shən\ n: the process of living in a particular place.

About the Shop:

We believe that where we live and what we wear is a creative expression of our values and that by making more conscious choices, we are promoting the kind of world we want to live in and the story we wish to share.

Artwork and handcrafts are tangible evidence of a particular place, person, and process that tell a story or serve a specific purpose. In our fast-paced world, the details of these stories can easily be lost or diluted, so by working with the artists and communities that we source from, we aim to preserve the unique materials and processes used to create each item.

Whether you are seeking the perfect piece for your home or wardrobe, a dose of colorful inspiration, or simply the freedom to dream, we hope that you will find what you are looking for, and more, at Habitation Co.

Our Values:

Creativity. We believe in honoring the unique talents of artists who are passionate about making the world a more beautiful place through their work and in fostering personal relationships between makers and collectors by sharing the stories behind each piece.

Integrity. We believe that the process of creating something beautiful is just as important as the end result and each object should positively impact the lives of every person who has a role in it's production, from start to finish.

Sustainability. We believe that human beings have been entrusted with the care and protection of the earth and all of the creatures that call it home, therefore we are committed to minimizing consumer waste, supporting efforts to protect our planet, and using renewable materials as often as possible.

About the Owner:

Hi, I'm Hailey, treasure hunter and founder of Habitation Co., a shop, blog, and creative space designed to connect, inspire, and empower others around the world. Habitation Co. is the culmination of my greatest lifelong passions: culture, creativity, sustainability, and small business.

Growing up, I was surrounded by artwork and objects that my dad acquired during his extensive travels. These objects instilled in me a love and appreciation for art and other cultures at a young age that inspired me to eventually pursue my degree in art history. While researching my thesis on "The Impact of Tourism on Art Production in Indigenous Cultures" I realized that there is a huge deficit in how non-western artwork is perceived and produced.

By combining timeless designs with modern aesthetics and high quality materials, I hope to present traditional art forms in a fresh way. I am drawn to unique, personality-filled pieces that tell an interesting story of the people and places they originate from. I have handpicked each item available in the shop, whether while wandering the open-air markets of India, visiting with artisans in Africa, or connecting with creative businesses near and far through the wonders of technology.

I am constantly inspired by the beautiful and diverse world we live in. My mission is that each object found at Habitation Co. will positively impact every person involved in the creative process, from maker, to curator, to collector, and beyond!

Our Logo Design:

Our hand-painted logo represents our passion for handmade products and the artisans who create them.

Indigo is a vibrant pigment used for dyeing fabric in almost every indigenous culture around the world from Africa to Asia to the Americas and beyond.

The hut is the most basic shelter found universally in the history of nomadic cultures. These single-room dwellings are typically made of organic materials, have a minimal environmental impact, and facilitate communal living.

Geometric patterns represent the origins of written language, communication, and storytelling.  Universally, circles represent community, relationship, communication, inclusivity, and trust.
