Simple Fall Picnic Essentials

Here in Southern California, slightly cooler temperatures and dinnertime sunsets make an evening picnic sound more appealing than ever. Really, any excuse to get outside and share some quality time, and a cheap bottle of wine, with good company is good enough for us. The key to a great picnic is to keep it simple and to make sure we can easily pack in, and pack out, everything we need. Our go-to picnic snacks are usually some good cheeses, olives, crackers, fresh fruit, marcona almonds, and a fair trade chocolate bar for dessert. The fewer plates, silverware, and containers the better, since one of the best parts of a picnic is not having to do a load of dishes afterward.

Whether you want to spread out on the sand or enjoy the view from a local lookout point, here are our picks for enjoying a casual picnic this fall:

Simple Fall Picnic Essentials:

1. A simple backpack to carry your goodies in

2. Beach blanket to spread out on

3. A tea towel "tablecloth" for your picnic

4. A lightweight scarf for layering when the sun goes down

The Process of Living: A Designer's Home in Durban

In an age where the interior design world is dominated by neutral, sleek, and minimalist Scandinavian-style spaces, the rich and decadent home of designer, photographer, and creative director Neville Trickett feels like a triple-chocolate lava cake in a world of nonfat frozen yogurt parfaits. Neville is the real deal, as is evident in his personal style and his portfolio, and he has been collecting, designing, curating, and exploring spaces around the world for 25 years.

The second I laid eyes on this house tour I stopped in my internet-browsing tracks. There is so much happening in each photo I can't even begin to describe or dissect them in detail so I'll just leave you to enjoy the tour. See if you can spot our Tretchikoff "Chinese Lady" Pillow below!

HOW TO WEAR A SQUARE SCARF

Hailey Fynaardt

If we've ever hung out in person, you've mostly likely seen me wearing a scarf, year round, in almost any kind of weather. For me, an outfit doesn't quite feel complete without one. Because of this, I used to have a pretty serious scarf-hoarding situation in my closet, but as I've worked on simplifying and tidying up (are you in on The Life-Changing Magic, yet?) the rest of my life, I've pared down my scarf collection to a handful of my very favorite pieces, which includes the scarf I purchased this past Spring during my trip to India. In fact, I've loved (and worn) this scarf so much, I spent nearly two months corresponding back and forth with the owner of the shop that I purchased mine from, and arranged for a small shipment of these beautiful handmade scarves for the shop.

My favorite thing about these scarves is... everything! The lightweight fabric is comfortable and cozy, even for the most claustrophobic scarf-wearer, and the patterns are all so pretty and unique, no two pieces are the same! And each scarf is finished with delicate details like fabric-wrapped seashell tassels and buttons. I also love the square shape, although I wasn't quite sure at first how to wear it, especially with the tassels on the corners. But once I found a low-maintenance way to wrap it, it became my new go-to scarf style.

Here is my Simple Way to Wear a Square Scarf:

1. Fold scarf into a large triangle by connecting diagonal corners

2. With folded edge facing you, drape long ends over shoulders

3. Cross one end over the opposite shoulder, bring to front

4. Cross other end around opposite shoulder, bring to front
